WNBA Preseason Matchup

The New York Liberty will close out the 2019 preseason with a matchup against the Connecticut Sun at 2:00pm on May 19 here at the Times Union Center!

ALBANY, NY – SMG managed Times Union Center, in conjunction with GymRat CHALLENGE, announce today that WNBA teams, New York Liberty and Connecticut Sun, will face off in a preseason game on May 19, 2019.  The Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) is a professional basketball league that celebrates the best women’s basketball talent.  The WNBA will be entering its 23rd season in 2019.

“We’re committed to promoting women in sports across the state, and as we celebrate Women’s History Month, the announcement of the Women’s National Basketball Association returning to Albany puts a spotlight on the importance of women showcasing their talents and learning critical leadership skills,” said Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul.  “I encourage New Yorkers to enjoy the WNBA as we continue to attract sporting events to the Capital Region and other areas of New York State.

The GymRat CHALLENGE is among the largest amateur sporting events in the nation, hosting over 550 boys and girls basketball teams.  For over two decades, the GymRat CHALLENGE has been a rite of passage for today and tomorrow’s NCAA, NBA and WNBA stars.  The 2019 BOYS GymRat CHALLENGE will take place on May 25-26 and the GIRLS GymRat CHALLENGE will tip off on June 15-16.  Both events will be conducted in top basketball venues across the Capital Region including the Times Union Center and Albany Capital Center.  For more information, visit
