Internships

Overview

The Times Union Center is Upstate New York's premier sports and entertainment facility. Home to the Siena College Men's Basketball team, the arena also hosts many of today's top concerts, family shows and high school/college athletic events.

Students participating in our internship program will receive hands-on learning experiences in the operations of a sports and entertainment facility.

Requirements

Students Must:
    Be currently enrolled in a college or university
    Provide documentation of receiving academic credit
    Submit a cover letter and resume
    Specify semester for internship: Fall [year] or Spring [year]

    Internships are available full or part time
    Summer internships are only available when specifically mentioned in a listing below

 

Security

Assist the Security Manager in the following:

Scheduling
Deployments
Licensing administrative duties
Lost and found program assistance
Security and emergency planning programs
Other duties as assigned

Availability: Monday 9am-1pm, Wednesday 11am-3pm, Friday 11am-3pm

Marketing

The Marketing department at the Times Union Center offers two internships, Marketing and Social Media. Both unpaid internships are offered full and part-time.  Academic credit must be received.  Interns assist the Director of Marketing and Marketing Manager, along with office staff on day-to-day activities in addition to event day operations. The following is a list of duties that the intern will be expected to perform, however the job is not limited to the duties on the list. Responsibilities are subject to change based on the season's event schedule.

Marketing Internship:

Design print ads, posters, postcards, flyers, brochures, marquees, etc.
Write 1,000 word editorials for quarterly supplements
Coordinate donation requests
Distribute marketing materials
Assist with the coordination of press conferences and other media events
Assist in the distribution of media credentials and escorting media at various events
Update local area online calendars
Assist with Times Union Center social media
General office work - including but not limited to maintaining databases

To be successful in this position you must be available to intern a minimum of 12 hours per week (18-24 preferred).  This position requires strong Photoshop and writing skills.

Social Media Internship:

Create social media content
Assist in maintenance of social media pages
While attending press conferences/media events, handle all pictures & social media posts
While attending limited Times Union Center events, handle event/fan pictures & social media posts
Create Facebook albums to upload event & fan pictures
General office work - including but not limited to maintaining databases
Social media content & maintenance of the following pages:
Times Union Center, Albany: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat
Albany Capital Center, Albany: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter
Blue Cross Arena, Rochester: Facebook, Twitter

To be successful in this position you must be able to intern a minimum of 12 hours per week (18-24 preferred).  This is a research and detail-oriented position that also requires creativity and strong writing skills.

Finance

The following is a list of duties that the intern will be expected to perform, however the job is not limited to the duties on the list.

Handle Accounts Payable.
Process Box Office work.
Assist accounting department as needed.
Process all invoices.
Maintain an open payable listing, prepare payment, review report and produce checks for payment. 
Move invoices to appropriate files. 
Reconcile daily box office work and various monthly accounts. 
Handle all payables for the Times Union Center Garage. 
Reconcile bank accounts.
Assist with financial statements and special projects. 
All other duties as assigned.
